Most travelers fly, but Nepal is one of the few destinations where a land route genuinely makes sense, and we get asked about it often enough that it deserves its own explanation:
By Air: Direct flights from Dhaka to Kathmandu run around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours on Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Nepal Airlines, and US-Bangla Airlines. This is the fastest and most comfortable option and is what's included in all packages listed above.
By Land: The overland route runs Dhaka → Benapole/Petrapole border → Kolkata or Siliguri (India) → Kakarbhitta border → Kathmandu, typically taking 24–30 hours of total travel including bus and border crossings. This route requires a valid Indian transit visa in addition to your Nepal entry, since you pass through Indian territory. It's mainly chosen by budget travelers, students, and those combining Nepal with a Kolkata/Darjeeling stop. If you're interested in this route, contact our visa team first — the transit visa needs to be arranged before the trip, not on arrival.
For most travelers with limited holiday time, flying is the practical choice; the land route saves money but costs 1–2 extra travel days each way.
Nepal offers visa-on-arrival for Bangladeshi passport holders at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and major land border crossings, valid for tourist stays. You'll need a passport valid for at least 6 months, a passport-size photo, and the visa fee payable in cash (USD) on arrival. If your itinerary includes a stop in India (land route, or the Nepal & India combo package), you'll separately need an Indian visa arranged in advance — Nepal's visa-on-arrival does not cover Indian territory.
